What is Crane Pendant?

Crane pendant is a crane-controlling device. Pendant push buttons are used for controlling the hoist in eot cranes and overhead cranes. Cranes Pendants have been used to control the lifting of the load. It is a simple series of switches. Crane pendants are the most important part of the crane. Crane pendant is also known as crane pendant station and crane control unit.

Until about ten years ago, all bridge and eot cranes were operated by wired pendant push button control. But recently cranes can be controlled by remote control. Cranes are operated by the crane operator and ground personnel. Crane operators have seating in the crane cabin. The ground personnel is guided to the operator or the crane can be controlled using lever control.

The crane control unit can be connected to the crane itself or like many cranes, it can be a radio remote unit. The operators can control the crane using wired push buttons connected to the crane and suspended from the bridge crane. When the crane crosses the runway, the operator walks beside the crane.

Pendant stations contain low-power pilot duty switches which are connected to the relays and PLCs. By using them, the user actuates the switches on pendants in a specific order. So, cranes are move to their desired point. Pendant control stations are designed for handling material and lifting applications. These devices look fairly simple, they actually contain many components. Pendant workstations usually have switches, dials, and buttons through which commands can be transmitted to controlled equipment and other monitoring systems (if required). The pendant and its controlled equipment are usually connected through a wiring system.

Why the use of a crane pendant is beneficial?

In wireless connectivity, maybe an interruption of an electric signal due to its broadcasting. But crane pendants are wired to the cranes. there is no chance of mixing another signal into the original electric signal.so, there is less possibility of crane accidents. The operator can safely operate the crane with a crane pendant push button. But the main weakness of crane pendants is, operators, require to stay in the crane area while performing the crane operations.
